The biggest problem for many mac users is this storage problem. Even if Apple doubles the storage space of new devices, buying a new device is not good for your wallet. That’s why we show you here how to clear the storage of the current Mac.

First of all, before you do this, check the storage on the Mac. With that, you can see how much storage you have used and how much is left. For that, first go to the Apple menu. Go to Storage in About This Mac. Here you can see a bar. Here is how much of your storage is allocated to Photos, Videos, System, Music, other Apps and other files. Before freeing up the space, we want to tell you that it takes more time and for that you should use a professional cleaning app.

Now let’s see what we can do to improve your storage.

1. Remove unused apps and all their leftovers

MacOS has given you many options to delete unused apps.

Go to Finder and select applications. Select useless apps and put them in the trash. Then empty the trash.

How to delete from Launchpad. Open the Launchpad. Click and hold an app icon until the icon shakes. Click the X symbol next to the app.

In this way, even if you simply delete apps, the leftovers may remain on your device. You can use MacKeeper for this. Open Mackeeper. Select Smart Uninstaller in the left sidebar. Check the boxes next to the app you want and select remote. Then click Remove in the window that opens and confirm the deletion.

2. Optimize storage with built-in tools

Even if your storage is left, you can increase the storage by using the Storage Management tools provided by Apple itself. Click the Apple Menu to get access to it. Go to About This Mac and select storage. Then click Manage.

You can free up space by transferring large files and videos to the cloud. Click Store in iCloud for that. With a free plan, you can clear a storage space of up to 5GB.

3. Empty the Trash automatically

Usually you can empty the Trash manually. You can automate this process. In this way, the files stored in Trash will be removed permanently in 30 days. By enabling this feature, you can clear your storage by only 30% once a month.

Go to the Apple Menu. Go to About this Mac there. Go to Manage in the Storage tab. Next go to Empty Trash Automatically. Click Turn On there.

4. Delete old iOS backups

Backing up data on your iPhone and iPad is a very good thing for data protection. iOS backup supports temporary files rather than permanent files.

It is really easy to delete old iOS backups and optimize the storage. All you have to do is go to the Apple Menu first. Go to About this Mac. Go to Manage on the Storage tab. Go to iOS Files. Select the backups and delete them. Then confirm the deletion.

5. Clear Chrome Cache

If you are a person who uses the internet a lot, your storage may be full of files in the browser cache. This reduces the storage you have to use. You can get extra space by cleaning these cache files from your browser. Even if it’s not that big of a space, you’ll be able to make use of it.

To clear data in Chrome, Open the Chrome browser and go to the three dot icon on the top right. Go to clear browsing data in more tools. Also delete cache images and files.

In Safari and Firefox, you can get additional space by clearing cache data in the same way.

For Safari, go to Safari. Go to Advanced in its Preferences. Mark the checkbox next to the Show Developer menu. Click on develop in the top menu. Click Empty cache.

For Firefox, go to its menu and click Preferences. Select the Privacy and security panel. Click Clear Data in the Cookies and site data section.
